How we met...

Through mutual friends... aka Tony played hockey with Justine's ex-boyfriend! One of the first times we hung out was when Justine was trying to build an Ikea entertainment center for her apartment. Although she is now a pro at Ikea furniture assembly, this was one of her first projects. It was around midnight or so and she was getting frustrated - she really needed an extra set of hands to hold the pieces together while she secured everything in place!

Justine decided to take a break for a bit and check her computer (this was before FB! crazy!). She started IMing with a few people and one of them was Tony. At the time, they only lived a few miles apart. Tony had nothing going on that night and volunteered to come over and give Justine a hand with finishing up the entertainment center.

After that night, they hung out a couple more times. Apparently Tony had tried to kiss Justine about three different times over the next week or so. Either he was really subtle or she was totally oblivious because their first kiss was a few weeks later! And the rest in history!!!

The Proposal...

It was a pretty normal Wednesday working at Trailway Pond. We were excited because New Year's Eve was right around the corner; this meant that working hard was not quite on the top of our list that day ;) It had been a pretty quiet day so I wasn't too surprised when Tanya asked me to go check out some carpet in one of our vacant apartments to get my opinion on whether or not we should replace it.

However, once she told me which apartment it was, I told her that I had already seen it and had even used it to show prospective residents the layout. I kind of argued with her that the carpet seemed fine, maybe a little worn, but no stains or weird smells. But Tanya insisted that I should take another look and maybe check out the vinyl too while I was in there since it might be out of date.

So I grabbed my coat and keys and headed across the parking lot to Building One. I walked to the end of the hall where 103 was located and on the door was a small note typed on white paper. It said "Open this door and follow the trail." My first instinct was that this was a little creepy... who would put a note like that on the door of an empty apartment? I almost turned back down the hall to grab Tanya to come with me. Instead, I decided I would peek my head in before just walking in. I put my key in the lock and it didn't catch - the door was already unlocked!!! Now I was even more creeped out!

But... I reached in and flipped on the entry light and peeked my head in. There were a few random items sitting on the kitchen counter which I thought was weird... and out of the corner of my eye, something was glowing. I turned to see a path of lighted candles leading into the bedroom!!! I "followed the trail" and at the end was a heart of lighted candles... and my honey standing in the middle! I was pretty surprised!!!

He smiled and nervously recited a poem he had wrote for me (I should probably ask his permission before I post it on here). The whole time he was kinda shaky and smiley and then for the last line of the poem, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!! :) :) :)

It was very sweet and something I will cherish forever!
